Train Hero Airman Spencer Stone was released from UC Davis Medical Center on Thursday. Airman Stone was hospitalized after being repeatedly stabbed while defending a woman who was being assaulted in downtown Sacramento.

Stone’s brother, Everett Stone, set up a GoFundMe account to cover the costs incurred by Stone’s family. Stone’s brother writes that Spencer was stabbed 4 times. Spencer’s wounds include a punctured heart, liver and a lung. Stone suffered a collapsed lung and had to undergo open heart surgery.

Spencer Stone was stabbed 6 blocks from where I live in downtown Sacramento. I’ve been researching the crime since it happened. Hard to believe just a month ago he was two feet from me at a parade honoring him on 9-11. train heros in front of me crop

Police have no leads as to Airman Stone’s attackers, and no arrests have been made.

After hearing of the attack, Airman Brian Kolfage, who lost both legs and an arm in Iraq, set up a reward fund to help find Stone’s attackers. Sacramento Police Department’s Crime Alert is working in conjunction with Kolfage, and has agreed to an increased reward amount above their usual $1000. Sacramento Crime Alert will disburse the reward to the person who provides the tip that leads to the arrest of Airman Stone’s attacker. Airman Kolfage has been awarded with one of the most prestigious military scholarships, the Pat Tillman Scholar Award, along with Wounded Warrior Project’s highest honor, the George C. Lang Award for Courage.  Kolfage also served on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ Veterans Advisory Committee, and was her guest at the 2012 Presidential State of the Union Address.
