Legal voters: they’re so passe. I mean, why should we just let those who are eligible pick the people who will run our country?
The District of Columbia absolutely agrees with this sentiment, and they’re willing to let illegal immigrants vote to prove it. A new D.C. law is specifically designed to allow those illegally in this country to vote, and it could have broader implications within the United States.
The Local Resident Voting Rights Act of 2015 is designed to allow illegal immigrants who fall under the aegis of Obama’s executive actions on immigration reform to vote in district elections.
One of D.C.’s sub-districts, Takoma Park, also allows people who aren’t naturalized citizens to vote in district elections. As a former resident of D.C. who is at the risk of editorializing here, the only other nation Takoma Park residents might be naturalized citizens of is Burning Man.
“These are taxpayers who should have the opportunity to have their voices heard in local elections,” Gross told The Washington Times.
The idea that the president’s executive action on illegal immigration was going to stop where Obama said it would should have been taken as prima facie absurd, but moderate apologists for the president swore it would.
This could soon spread to the national level, until all of those who aren’t legally in our country will have a guaranteed say as to who will govern the United States.
This is the eventual reality that President Obama promised us wouldn’t happen, happening right before our eyes.
Perhaps the only surprising thing about this is that it took two months to start.
