One of Americans most purchased prepared food brands sold at grocery stores across the country has just issued a massive recall of a very popular item. While this isn’t an uncommon action taken by food companies, the reason for this one is rather disturbing. Check your refrigerator before dinner because you definitely do not want to encounter what some unlucky customers have already.
Just when a couple customers thought they were eating an organic and healthy meal, they opened up the package to a world of problems. Now the two separate Florida residents are having to undergo a battery of tests for the last thing anyone ever would want to face.
As a precautionary yet necessary safety measure, Fresh Express has issued an immediate recall of its 5 oz. Organic Marketside Spring Mix prepared salad sold at Walmart stores in the Southeastern region of the United States, 9 News reported. What makes it worse, was what the separate customers both found in the product at different times.
The spring mixes purchased by these two shoppers at the same store came with a dead bat, free of charge inside. “Federal officials say they are recommending that the pair start post-exposure rabies treatment,” the report noted adding that the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) could not determine if the bats had rabies. Now, these two will have to be tested for the disease to rule it out.
Anyone who has consumes this product prior to the recall has not been harmed so long as no “animal material” was found in their mix. However, the company is still urging anyone who has purchased this item to discard now after the recall and they are offering refunds.
While accidents in production can happen, this is a rather foul oversight. It’s hard to believe that where there are two dead bats, there’s aren’t more. Hopefully, this serves as a wake-up call to the company to clean up production and ensure sanitary conditions.
