I understand that the family of an armed robbery suspect would want to stand by their accused relative — but this is ridiculous.
An unnamed Good Samaritan shot a masked gunman at a Family Dollar store in Mobile, Ala., last November after the would-be robber had been arrested and released on bail for a similar crime at the nearby Original Oyster House.
The parents of Adric White originally granted an interview to WALA but later called the station to retract their statements and demand they not be aired.
Another unnamed relative, however, told the station during a phone interview that the Good Samaritan should have looked the other way.
“If (the Good Samaritan’s) life was not in danger, if no one had a gun up to him, if no one pointed a gun at him — what gives him the right to think that it’s okay to just shoot someone? You should have just left the store and went wherever you had to go in your car or whatever.”
Police told the station that the actions of the Good Samaritan, who had been carrying a concealed weapon legallyfor about four years at the time, were completely legal.
In other words, he had a complete right to defend the defenseless against a criminal thug like Adric White, no matter what his family members might think.
The Samaritan said he intervened when he saw an employee being led to the front of the store by a masked man with a gun.
“He had the gun to his head. He had him on his knees,” the man told WALA. “I drew my gun on him and I said ‘Hey don’t move.’ At that point he swung around and before he had a chance to aim the gun at me, I fired. I didn’t want to shoot him.”
He fired five times and White required hospitalization for his wounds. No one else was reported injured.
Prosecutors immediately sought to revoke White’s bail for the first robbery.

These situations are precisely why concealed carry laws exist — to allow citizens to defend themselves and others against criminals because the police cannot always be where they are needed.
This Good Samaritan was a selfless hero to confront White as he did, and I hope that White’s relative’s idiotic comments on the subject can be written off to the stress of having just learned that her 18-year-old relative was a violent thug.
It’s unlikely, but I prefer to give her the benefit of the doubt.
