Chicago has become a killing field with blood in the streets there. A whopping 545 people have been killed there this year and we still have three months to go. Of course, authorities are blaming guns. They have seized approximately 6,000 guns this year and crime is just getting worse and worse – homicides are off the charts. They want stiffer sentences for repeat gun offenders, but that won’t do squat. The problem isn’t guns, which are banned in Chicago, it’s the gangs and criminals.
If you armed the citizens there, crime would drop and at least innocent people would not die so frequently. Right now, they are sitting ducks for the bad guys. Two people were killed yesterday alone… an unknown 35 year-old man and a 17 year-old girl who was shot in the head from the street while riding in the backseat of a car. Life expectancy in Chicago is shockingly short and brutal these days.
From The Federalist Papers Project:
545 people have been murdered so far this year in Chicago, the murder capital of the world.
Ninety were slain in August alone, and just today, two people were shot and killed.
There are three months left in 2016, and already the death toll in Chicago from homicide is unbelievable. Just last week, 22 were shot, leaving 2 dead, and we ran the story here.
August marked the deadliest single month in the city since 1993, and the Chicago Tribune reported last month:
This August alone ended with 90 homicides, the deadliest single month since July 1993 when 99 were killed. Asked during a brief telephone interview Wednesday what the department could do better to stem the violence, police Superintendent Eddie Johnson pointed to seizures of illegal guns closing in on 6,000 so far this year.
Johnson, who again blamed the proliferation of guns and lenient sentencing laws for much of the mayhem, is pushing for lawmakers in Springfield to craft legislation calling for stiffer sentences for repeat gun offenders.
Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson should be pushing for action… but he’s pushing for the wrong kind. Arm the citizens and give the police more leeway when dealing with criminals. Sure, stiffen the penalties, but also get tough on gangs and neighborhoods. If Giuliani can do it, so can the mayor of Chicago. Increased gun seizures aren’t and won’t solve this problem. Dead bodies in the streets attest to that. The only ones you are keeping guns from are the good guys. The bad guys will always get weapons.
Sometimes it is necessary to think outside of your Progressive box. Legalize guns and increase your task forces. Do what works and stop obsessing on guns. Give the people of Chicago the right to protect themselves instead of becoming another weekend statistic.
