Alfred Olango’s sister had called 911 because her brother was ‘not acting like himself’ in the street. She was still in her work clothes when it all went down at the Broadway Village Shopping Center in El Cajon, CA. Police had received calls about a man behaving erratically and a possible danger. When they got to the scene the first responding officer observed a black male in his 30s frantically pacing back and forth, “not only endangering himself, but motorists.” Olango’s erratic behavior got him shot because police and bystanders watched him pull something from his pocket and take a shooting stance.
Bystanders were taking video. Only 1 got video during the event while others took video of the aftermath. One of these videos caught Olango’s sister screaming,”I called for help, I didn’t call for you guys to kill him! Oh my God, you killed my brother!”
Since the shooting, the family claims that Olango is mentally ill. The bystander who took video of the actual shooting offered up their video to the police. The video showed Olango with hands in his pocket then pulling them out which was when both police officers fatally shot him. Police have released a picture below where he looks like he’s making a lethal decision. The picture shows an obvious strong shooting stance with hands pressed together. While no weapon was found at the scene, it’s obvious that Olango wanted the police to believe he had a gun.
Several dozen protesters gathered at the scene of the shooting and outside the police headquarters yesterday. They were cursing at officers guarding the scene and video showed people pushing through police tape.
My heart goes out to the family for this terrible tragedy. Based on the little information we’ve been given I’m suspecting that Olango may have been either suffering a psychotic episode or was attempting suicide by police. In any case it’s very sad, even sadder that Black Lives Matter is trying to profit off of this tragedy.
