A black professor at Vanderbilt University who published a newspaper op-ed warning Americans of the dangers of Islamist terror after the attacks in paris is under attack by Muslim students on the campus for promoting “hate speech.”
Carol Swain, a prominent professor of political science and law at the “Harvard of the South” was the target of a weekend protest over a column she wrote for the Nashville Tennessean headlined “Charlie Hebdo attacks prove critics were right about Islam.”
On Saturday, a Muslim student group organized a ”Campus-Wide Protest Against Hate Speech Published in the Tennessean,” which left little doubt who exactly they were talking about.
In the campus newspaper, the Vanderbilt Hustler, organizer Fatishtay Yamin, publicity chairwoman for Vanderbilt’s Muslim Student Association, said her goal was to improve the campus atmosphere.
In the event, it’s not at all clear that that’s what happened.
Several hundred Muslim students turned out for the protest, which featured a surprise visit from Victoria Jackson, a former “Saturday Night Live” cast member who has become an activist in the tea party movement, according to The College Fix.
Jackson, a 1980s-era “SNL” performer who impersonated celebrities like Sally Struthers and LaToya Jackson, engaged the protesters in a short debate before she got shut down.
Shutting down scholars like Swain is exactly the point of the Muslim students’ actions.
“What I’m really trying to show her is that she can’t continue to say these kinds of things on a campus that’s so liberal and diverse and tolerant,” Yamin said Saturday, according to The College Fix.
So “liberal and diverse an tolerant” that some things aren’t allowed to be said at all? That’s liberals in a nutshell.
