Here’s another guy saying something ridiculous to get himself some free press. His name is Elie Mystal and he wants jury nullification by black people whenever they’re part of a jury who observes a case where the victim is white and perpetrator is black.
Does he think white people are purposely making black people guilty of every crime they’re on trial for? Does he think there’s a reward system in place each time a person gets sucked out of their normal life to sit on some boring jury panel, lose money from not going to work, and decide on someone’s fate?
That’s just not true. It may be racist to say that white people purposely make black people guilty of crimes they’re on trial for, but Elie probably won’t agree to that.
The best way for a black person to not be found guilty of a crime is to not be on trial for committing a crime.
Why doesn’t Elie focus on teaching people not to be criminals instead of blaming a jury for believing someone was guilty? There’s TONS of white people found guilty by jury in America. Also mass amounts of white criminals take a plea deal instead of getting batted with the homerun charges.
From what I know, I’m pretty sure the jury is usually selected by the attorneys, so what about that scenario? Why blame every white juror? What about the jury members selected who may not be white and STILL FOUND THE PERSON GUILTY?
Not every jury is filled with white folks and there’s still black folks being found guilty of crimes.
It’s not about race, it’s about the crime and the evidence and the attorney’s presenting the case in a way that finds the criminal guilty.
Like I said before, if you don’t want to be found guilty of a crime, then don’t commit a crime.
And don’t forget, most white criminals, especially violent ones, are found guilty anyway. When was the last time you saw a mental nutcase serial killer walk free? You don’t.
White people convict white people too. I guess Elie forgot about that.
Elie talks about cops who go free after they shoot an alleged criminal. Look at the whole situation, most of the people shot by cops did something to warrant the shooting.
There will always be a bad apple or two, in every profession, but in most cases the cop shootings are justified by the alleged criminals actions and demand a reaction from the officer.
How about this – stop committing crimes or being disrespectful people who fail to follow a direct order for law enforcement.
“Jury nullification would get white people’s attention. Remember how pissed-off white people were about O.J.? And that was just one dude. White people would notice if black jurors simply refused to play along,” he wrote.
Mystal is a lawyer and media pundit for the popular website that covers legal wranglings and law gossip. His column came after a mistrial of a murder case against a white cop who shot a black man.
Mystal said blacks are frustrated with the legal system and should take it out in the courtroom. And he suggested it’s a practice white juries use to help police charged with assaulting or killing blacks.
“Maybe it’s time minorities got in the game,” he wrote.
“Black people lucky enough to get on a jury could use that power to acquit any person charged with a crime against white men and white male institutions. It’s not about the race of the defendant, but if the alleged victim is a white guy, or his bank, or his position, or his authority: we could acquit. Assault? Acquit. Burglary? Acquit. Insider trading? Acquit.
“Murder? What the hell do you think is happening to black people out here? What the hell do you think we’re complaining about when your cops shoot us or choke us? Acquit.”
We think you’re pushing a false narrative of racism and stirring the pot instead of using better ingredients.
How about we focus on teaching people to not commit crimes and get themselves in front of a jury?
