Amir Khan, a boxing champ, gave an interview with Daily Star Sunday where he called for British based Muslim citizens to deal with violent extremism head on.
He decided to speak out after another mixed martial arts fighter named Tam Khan called British terror sympathizers “uneducated monkeys”.
Tam called Muslims to,
“stop becoming militants and extremists. I think it’s time the British or West deport not only those who speak bad or against the country but the entire family also. Islam is a beautiful religion, but these uneducated monkeys misinterpret things and feel they are acting on God’s behalf and it’s only getting worse.”
Tam Kahn was later thrown off Facebook for his rant.
He got some heated responses. Former WBA and IBF light welterweight champ Amir Khan, who is 29, backed up Tam, though. Amir said,
“He’s right. Everything he said is true. I am proud of being British and anyone who lives here has to have respect whatever your religion. There’s no place for extremism here.”
Amir is heavily involved with charitable organizations giving back to the community by donating his time and stardom to these needy causes. He also is known to hang out with celebrities but rebukes the notion he is a megastar. He insists that he would be willing to try his share in the entertainment industry but it’s not something he vehemently said he would be doing.
It is nice to see people speaking up against radical jihadist terrorism. It is when we all come together to denounce such tragic acts of terrorism and call for the punishment of those accused that we are at our best. Their can be no justice when some remain silent. Because as liberals like to say, silence is violence. We must all use our voices to denounce such vitriolic and hateful acts of Islamic terrorism.
