In a dramatic turn of events, President Trump is rumored to be considering a liberal replacement for former FBI director James Comey. Comey’s firing made liberals livid since everything President Trump does makes liberals livid, and they’ve been trying to call it illegal ever since. Even Comey himself though says there was nothing wrong with what President Trump did when he fired the director of the FBI. Since it’s the President’s job to keep the country safe, this does fall within his jurisdiction.
The epic freak outs continued when names like Trey Gowdy and Sheriff Clarke made the short list of possible replacements for the hated Comey. One would think that someone with a history in law enforcement or criminal prosecution would be just the kind of resumes that should be considered for this job. However, with each passing meltdown, the liberals are making it more and more clear that their version of the job description includes someone who they can reasonable bend to their own will.
In a unsarcastically bipartisan move, however, President Trump seems to have put someone from the big middle of the liberal camp in the running for this coveted position. Apparently, President Trump isn’t playing favorites as much as the liberals would have you believe, and he’s going to actually consider who might be best for the job, not who would keep him from receiving too much flack from either side of the aisle.
Joe Lieberman, the former Democratic vice-presidential nominee, is the front-runner to be named FBI director, according to several White House officials and advisers.
Senior administration officials have told others in the last 12 hours that Trump is expected to pick Lieberman to replace FBI director James Comey, who was abruptly fired by Trump last week.
A person familiar with Wednesday’s meeting said Trump bonded with Lieberman, and the president left leaning towards the former Connecticut senator, who retired in 2013. Trump has not signaled otherwise that anyone else is the favorite, aides said, and has told one adviser he wants to make an announcement before he leaves Friday on his first foreign trip.
Trump told reporters Thursday afternoon “we’re very close to an FBI director” and that the pick would be announced soon. When asked whether Lieberman was among the finalists, he replied yes.
A White House spokesman declined to comment.
The pick would be an unorthodox one – the FBI is not usually run by politicians. Additionally, Lieberman is 75 years old, and FBI directors are typically appointed to serve 10-year terms.
Lieberman ran alongside Democrat Al Gore in 2000. He now works as special counsel at the same law firm with Marc Kasowitz, Trump’s longtime lawyer in New York, which could be an issue for Democrats, a senior Democratic aide said.
Trump often talks to Kasowitz, who’s also represented Bill O’Reilly, the Fox News anchor, and other prominent New Yorkers.
At a lunch, with Democratic senators, Thursday, Sen. Dick Durbin and others criticized the pick, according to a person familiar with the meeting.
But Lieberman is respected by many Democrats and Republicans alike in the Senate. He didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
I’m sure we will shortly be hearing a statement from the DNC as to how this will ruin their lives too, and how it’s all part of President Trump’s evil plot to destroy the earth, but for now, we can bask in their stunned (though no doubt short-lived) silence. I don’t personally have any idea why the President would consider an outspoken liberal for the position of Director of the FBI, but unlike my friends on the left, I’m going to assume that he’s probably privy to information that I am not, and put a little trust in him to do his job. You know, the one we hired him for, to protect us.
Perhaps a move like this will make everyone see him in a little bit less drastically evil light, and the man can get a little bit of peace in his life. We understand that almost half of the country wasn’t thrilled about his induction into office, but everyone can be assured that he’s doing a pretty darn good job at the keeping us safe part.
But then again, these are liberals we’re talking about. If they were prone to logic, they’d almost assuredly be conservatives.
