The optics surrounding President Barack Obama’s response to the recent beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians by the hands of the jihadists of the Islamic State group are becoming more difficult to stomach by the hour.
Two weeks ago, during the National Prayer Breakfast, Obama compared modern Islamic terrorism to the Crusades — historical events from centuries ago.
Even worse, Obama warned Christians not to get on their “high horse” when comparing the barbaric terrorism happening right now because of what Christians did 600 years ago.
In the recent video released by the Islamic State group that showed the beheading of the Christians on a Libyan beach, the leader, who has an obvious North American English accent, referred to their Western enemies as “crusaders.”
One quote from the Islamic State group spokesperson who starred in and narrated the gruesome video is quite eerie in the sense that part of it echoes statements that Obama has made in reference to the Crusades and how Christians should not be quick to judge:
“All crusaders: safety for you will be only wishes, especially if you are fighting us all together.”
As The Washington Post factually stated, “Islamic radicals have long invoked the Crusades to justify violence against the West, including the 9/11 attacks.”
They also made their case very clear when they directly called out the United States in the video in reference to Osama bin Laden.
“The sea you have hidden Sheikh Osama bin Laden’s body in, we swear to Allah we will mix it with your blood.”
Could our president be openly defending the radical terrorism in our world by using the same defense as the barbarians who are behind it?
It certainly looks that way — especially when he jets off to a five-star golf course after a beheading video is released. His behavior is as unbelievable as it is infuriating.
Granted, it will take more than Egyptian and Jordanian airstrikes on Islamic State training camps to destroy the Islamic State group, but the point is that they reacted swiftly.
They didn’t go shopping and play golf. They got down to brass tacks and showed valiant leadership in the face of evil.
As an American citizen, I’m envious of people living under a foreign government for the first time in my life.
