Excerpted from Mad World News: Chicago teen attempting to board a flight to Istanbul was arrested for rather disturbing charges.
Mohammed Hamzah Kahn, 19, is accused of attempting to provide the Islamic State terrorist group with material support, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois announced Monday, according to CNN reports.
The criminal complaint stated Kahn purchased a round-trip ticket to Turkey from Chicago with intentions to join the Islamic State.
Kahn was apprehended on Saturday after he crossed through the security checkpoint at O’Hare International Airport. Officials then obtained a search warrant for his home, where they found documents that expressed support for the barbaric terror group as well as other jihadists while claiming he wanted to travel to Syria.
Officials also found a note written to Kahn’s parents explaining that since the Islamic State has created a caliphate in the Middle East, he was obligated to travel there to support them. He stated that he’s upset with the immoral decline of Western societies and invited his parents to join him in the “Islamic State” and urged them not to alert authorities to his whereabouts, according to CBS.
“We are the lions of War,” Khan wrote. “My nation, the dawn has emerged.”
Kahn is likely just one of many who have been radicalized by the propaganda the Islamic State has produced, which is something FBI Director James Comey warned of in an interview with 60 Minutes Sunday evening. Comey said that they already know of at least a dozen Americans who have joined the jihadists in Iraq and Syria and there could be more, while stating homegrown radicals pose a serious threat to America.
We should be thankful they were able to arrest Kahn before he was able to travel to Syria and become further radicalized by the violent extremist group as Comey also warned citizens joining ISIS could return to this country to carry out attacks in America.
With any kind of luck, they’ll continue to stop these people before they’re able to do any damage.
Make sure you share this story so that others can see these people not only exist, but they’re here in America and pose a serious threat to our security.
