The situation in syria is escalating as each day goes by as more countries join the fight and take advantage of the leadership void that exists in the troubled region.
Today, another country joined the conflict in a bold way.
From The Washington Examiner:
A Russian air force jet was shot down after it violated Turkey’s airspace, according to unconfirmed reports. Witnesses say they saw a large explosion in Huraytan, northern Syria, as three fighter jets flew above.
Turkey’s reported action comes after a Russian MIG-29 was escorted back to Syrian airspace by Turkish jets last week. Turkey’s Prime Minister and President have repeatedly warned Russia to avoid Turkish airspace in its campaign in syria.
This represents a major development in the fight to stop ISIS while simultaneously addressing the brutal civil war in syria.
If these reports are accurate, and turkey did indeed shoot down a Russian plane, there is no telling what Vladimir Putin will respond with.
One thing is for sure, it is unlikely that President Obama is going to do anything about it.
