The First Amendment is the cornerstone of the U.S. Constitution, but you wouldn’t know that if you attend the University of New Mexico (UNM), where the cherished amendment has literally been shredded to pieces andreplaced with Shariah law.
How so? The university just passed Resolution 6S, a ruling that bans Islamophobia, which it conveniently describes as any “dislike or prejudice against Islam or Muslims, especially as a political force.”
What this means is that students and faculty members alike are hereby prohibited from saying anything negative (or truthful) about the Islamic religion.
According to Ihsan Wadud-Rodriguez, a senior who spoke with reporters at UNM’s student-run daily newspaper, this sort of so-called prejudice is driven by “inaccurate and uninformed presumptions about Muslims and the religion they practice.”
By stopping the sharing of these so-called uninformed presumptions, the university hopes to therefore stop the prejudice.
“I’m just hoping to spread understanding and have Muslim students feel more safe on campus and not have to worry if they seem like they’re affiliated with Islam,” Wadud-Rodrugiez told reporters.
She seems to be under the impression that there exists a difference between being a Muslim and being “affiliated with Islam.”
Regardless, the university chose to pass this bill in response to the shooting of three Muslims at UNC, which for the record had nothing whatsoever to do with religion or hatred.
UNM officials also chose to ignore the fact that anti-Muslim crime, which they argue is inspired by prejudice, ranks far lower than antisemitic hate crime, which comes in at a whopping 60 percent. (H/T Freedom Outpost)
But hey, what does it matter if the supporters of the bill distort the facts, ignore the truth and shred the Constitution, so long as UNM’s Muslim students don’t have to hear things that upset them!?
