(Conservative Tribune) It was all treat and no trick Friday night for Jill Tahmooressi as the day she had been waiting for since March 31 finally came. U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi has been released from Mexican custody and is now home in the United States.
Tahmooressi had been imprisoned in Mexico since he crossed the border with three firearms in his possession. He has maintained from the beginning that he did so accidentally, only carrying the weapons in his truck because he was moving when he got lost and entered Mexican territory by mistake.
For months, his mother has begged President Obama for assistance in getting the Marine home because he suffers from PTSD from his overseas combat tours and Mexico lacked the ability to treat him for the disorder. You can see the joy in her face as she welcomed him home last night, courtesy of Fox News:
No thanks to the Obama administration, Tahmooressi was released without any finding being made by the Mexican court about his guilt. His lawyers had argued that the judge must release him under a Mexican law that requires prisoners to be released if Mexico cannot provide them with adequate care.
Obama essentially ignored a petition signed by thousands of Americans demanding executive action to secure his release, but Republican Rep. Matt Salmon of Arizona helped champion his cause and was on hand Friday night to welcome him back to the United States:
All we can say is that it’s about time.
Welcome home, Sgt. Tahmooressi. We wish we know why your commander in chief abandoned you to the whim of the Mexican authorities, but we’re grateful for your safe return home and for your years of service in defense of your country.
Semper Fi, Marine.
