The Cheesecake Factory at the Tacoma Washington Mall kicked 6 police officers out of their restaurant on Tuesday. General manager, Will, is responsible for the ridiculousness of the whole situation. Will told the officers they had to leave because firearms were not allowed in the restaurant even for uniformed police officers.
Miriam Nichols, one of the 6 officers that were kicked out, took to social media to tell her side of the story. Nichols wrote to The Cheesecake Factory “I am local law enforcement and 5 co-workers and I were told to leave by the general manager, Will, of your Tacoma Mall location because 3 of us were wearing our badge, gun and were visibly identifiable as on-duty law enforcement. We were told the guns are not allowed whether you are law enforcement or not, they are not welcome. Everyone in our party was extremely upset at the lack of support we received at this location. One of our group members informed her husband who immediately contacted the establishment and was eventually routed to Will who told him that corporate has a strict no gun policy and that no person carrying a firearm, to include on duty law enforcement, we’re not welcome to eat there. When we walked in, no one in our group saw any sign that said no firearms allowed.”
The Cheesecake Factory replied to Nichols’s Facebook post with, “Miriam, our policy is to allow uniformed and identified law enforcement officials to possess their service weapons on our premises. To the extent that there was a miscommunication of our policy, we sincerely apologize.”
A general manager should be fully aware of all company policies including firearms on the premises. I doubt there was a miscommunication. A more plausible reality it that Will used his false authority on actual authority, stretching the companies policies to suit his own anti-gun activism. Will knew exactly what he was doing. If anyone is stupid enough to think that a no gun policy includes on duty police, they have no business being a general manager.
Cheesecake Factory advertises to be an anti-Second Amendment, gun free zone.
Gun free zones are free fire zones for criminals.
So… Cheesecake Factory, you really believe that criminals will break the law, but not businesses policies. I don’t think so! Just think about how well that worked for Aurora, Colorado, Sandy Hook…etc. We hope that The Cheesecake Factory will issue a more sincere apology to the officers and give to Will a big slice of humble pie for treating our men and women in blue with disrespect.
