The media has been in a frenzy over who is responsible for the murder of Dwayne Wade’s cousin. 32-year-old Nykea Aldridge was shot and killed in front of a school on Friday. Tragically, she was shot while she was pushing a baby stroller. Now, the men responsible have been identified — and they don’t fit into the Black Lives Matter narrative.
Darwin Sorrells, Jr. and Derren Sorrells are both known gang members and repeat criminals. Derren Sorrells was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the murder, but it wasn’t active when he participated in Aldridge’s murder, according to Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie T. Johnson.
“When Nykea Aldridge registered her child at school on Friday afternoon she wasn’t aware that shed be the subject of national headlines just hours later,” Johnson said.
Both brothers were charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder on Sunday. Darwin was released on parole in February, and was a “career gun offender”. Derren’s ankle monitor was inactive between the hours of 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. The reason was so that he could look for work, but instead, he spent his time murdering an innocent woman.
The Sorrells were allegedly attempting to shoot the driver of another vehicle, who the Sorrells targeted because they “exchanged looks”. They tried to chase the driver down and shot at him, but instead shot Aldridge in the head and arm. The baby, thankfully, was not injured. But Aldridge tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Dwayne Wade sent out a series of tweets after his cousin was murdered.
Wade has reacted to his cousin’s shooting only online, tweeting Friday: “My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough.”
Wade also tweeted Saturday morning: “The city of Chicago is hurting. We need more help& more hands on deck. Not for me and my family but for the future of our world. The YOUTH!” adding in a following tweet, “These young kids are screaming for help!!! #EnoughIsEnough.”
While Black Lives Matter whines about police brutality, they ignore the epidemic of gun violence that is plaguing the black community. Chicago, specifically, has seen a huge leap in the amount of gun violence this year. In July alone, there were 65 homicides… and not a peep from the Black Lives Matter movement.
