Wikileaks released another data dump yesterday, and Hillary Clinton has been the hardest hit. One of the e-mails released will likely leave her supporters fuming. And this e-mail isn’t decades old — it was sent earlier this year.
In it, Clinton campaign official Bill Ivy writes to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta that political power is best kept by maintaining an “unaware and compliant citizenry”. According to Ivy, Democrats are scared because Hillary can’t match Donald Trump’s “celebrity politics”, because she is “not an entertainer, and not a celebrity in the Trump, Kardashian mold.”
Ivy complained that money didn’t matter much compared to the ability to “conflate entertainment with the electoral process”. Ivy admitted that Trump is a master of television, and worried about how Hillary could possibly combat that.
“And as I’ve mentioned, we’ve all been quite content to demean government, drop civics and in general conspire to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry,” Ivy wrote. “The unawareness remains strong but compliance is obviously fading rapidly. This problem demands some serious, serious thinking – and not just poll driven, demographically-inspired messaging.”
Unfortunately, Ivy whines, people just aren’t as easy to manipulate anymore. But hey, they’ve still got unawareness on their side!
