(Mad World News) A Maryland Marine has been banned from his daughter’s school after getting into an argument with the faculty over an enraging homework assignment.
KDFW reports that Kevin Wood received a no trespassing order on Tuesday after he took issue with a Charles County high school’s assignment teaching the benefits of Islam to students.
The order comes from an argument after Wood, a U.S. Marine and Iraq War veteran, went to La Plata High School to protest the three-page assignment given to his eleventh-grade daughter. He confronted the vice principal over the content of the assignment, which asked for explanations of the Five Pillars of Islam, Mecca and Muhammad, and an argument allegedly ensued.
“I don’t force my religious views on them, so don’t force your religious views on me,” Kevin told KDFW.
However, school officials say Wood crossed a line when arguing with the vice principal, so they had no choice but to ban him from the school.
Both Wood and his wife Melissa don’t believe that religion should be taught in our schools, and they point out the glaring hypocrisy within the Islamic assignment since Christianity and Judaism aren’t in the curriculum.
“We cannot discuss our Ten Commandments in school, but they can discuss Islam’s Five Pillars?” said Melissa.
What’s worse is the school quietly ushered in the assignment without taking into consideration that some parents might be upset over it.
“None of us parents knew about this and they didn’t tell anybody,” Kevin said.
But school officials are defending the controversial lesson plan, claiming it to be more about history than it is proselytizing for Islam.
“We’re not teaching religion,” said spokeswoman Katie O’Malley-Simpson. “We’re teaching world history.”
Kevin stands behind his version of events and says that the accusation of him threatening the vice principal is bogus.
“I have witnesses that have said I did not threaten anybody in any way shape or form,” he said.
Both sides are still in discussion over the incident and are hoping to find some middle ground where everyone is happy. For now, their daughter is permitted to go to the library while her class discusses the assignment.
For the family, the hardest part of it all has been seeing Kevin, who bravely fought to defend our rights, being made out as some sort of monster by the school.
“They’re making him sound like he’s some bad person,” Melissa said. “He’s not a bad person. He fought for your country.”
