Recently, there has been an attack on our law enforcement officials. Under the Obama administration, he essentially made our police officers sitting ducks. Sadly, that sentiment has only grown with groups such as Black Lives Matter. This group only stokes the flames of division within the country. Because of these actions, criminals have upped their ante against those who wear the uniform, and I am afraid it will get worse before getting better.
Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Frazier had a harrowing close call that will most likely haunt him for the rest of life. Thankfully, if it was not for the actions of his partner he may not be around today to tell his story.
Frazier’s horrifying tale began on May 25, 2015, when he was violently attacked by a pack of thugs. These thugs dragged Frazier from his car and stabbed him multiple times with box cutters. These animals then attempted to drag him to nearby woods to cover up their crime. However, that was when Frazier unleashed hell on these thugs.
With a simple press of a button, Frazier unleashed his fury friend and partner, Lucas.
Deputy Frazier said that he was near his patrol car when he was attacked by the three thugs. Of course, the odds were not looking good for him considering it was a 3 against 1 fight.
“I had three people on me and I’m not a very big man, and they basically whipped my butt,” Frazier told the newspaper.
The attackers told him that there were going to kill him and started to drag him off into the woods.
Here is more of the interview:
Lucas was in the back of Frazier’s patrol vehicle, and he already knew not only something but everything was wrong.
“He knew. I could hear him coming. I couldn’t see anything because the blood was all in my eyes, but I could hear him coming, growling and making these sounds… he sounded like a wolf,” said Frazier. “I thought, ‘Now he’s gonna get you.’”
Lucas is a Belgian Malinois and Frazier’s faithful friend. Frazier could have gone for his gun or taser, but he knew his partner would do a better job.
Thankfully, Deputy Frazier only suffered minor cuts from the attack, although Lucas suffered more injuries. Sadly, the suspects did get away but a manhunt did quickly ensue shortly after.
Frazier said all four of Lucas’ canine teeth were broken in the attack, and he has had dental work to fix them, and all his incisors were broken at the gum line. The muscle that runs down his neck on the left side was detached, and he tore an ACL, Frazier said. Lucas is working on getting back to full speed, and he’s almost there now, but he will go back to search and rescue, which is what he was originally trained in, Frazier said.
Frazier owns Lucas, and has started a K-9 training business called TLB K-9 Enterprises. The two have also now gone back into federal search and rescue for FEMA.
“He goes into a building alone and when he finds a missing person he barks and lets us know that someone’s in there,” Frazier said. “Instead of sending a person in if the building’s not safe for a person to enter, we’ll send the dog in.”
Lucas can also find people who have drowned, Frazier said. They put him in a boat and he can locate the smell on the top of the water when a person is beneath the surface.
“He’s multi-talented,” Frazier said. “He can do a lot of things.”
It is easy to say that Lucas certainly earned himself some extra doggie treats that night. However, what is sad is that this is the sort of climate that was fostered under the previous administration. Thankfully, we have a president in office that fully supports our law enforcement officials again.
Please share this story so others can know of Lucas’s heroic “tail”.
