I suppose the title of the article could be “Registr Mor Rpublicns!” but we didn’t want to be TOO obvious.
Leaders of the Democratic Party in Pinellas County, Florida are clucking over a Republican’s plan to hold voter registration drives at Chick-fil-A restaurants in Tampa Bay.
Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Deborah Clark, is a Republican, and she announced that registration drives would be held at 9 of the eateries prior to the Nov. 8th general election. That’s ruffled quite a few feathers in Dem circles.
And no wonder. The Real Clear Politics average of polls for Florida has Hillary Clinton beating Trump by only 1 point. That despite the Clinton campaign spending $22 million on TV ads in the state versus Trump’s $1.6 million.
Susan McGrath, chairwoman of the Pinellas Democratic Party, scratched out a letter to Ms. Clark, letting her know that she believes the registration drives are “partisan” in nature.
“As an elected official, you have a duty to be evenhanded and fair. Surely, you and your office staff do understand that using Chick-Fil-A as the base for voter registration activities is not only inherently unfair but overtly partisan as well. This company has a strong and well-understood history of anti-LGBT activism and is publicly associated with Republican Party values.”
“While some Democrats may occasionally dine at Chick-fil-A (and perhaps even members of the LGBT community), the coordination of Pinellas voter registration activities with this right-leaning business very clearly conveys that your office is targeting Republican-leaning voters.”
Clark’s spokesman, Jason Latimer, responded by saying that the office has 350 voter drives planned for this year. Regarding McGrath’s accusations of partisanship he said that the restaurants draw a lot of consumers.
Want to register a lot of people to vote? Go where the people are… right? Sounds like a solid plan to me. Plus there’s Chick-fil-A’s awesome chicken sandwiches. A win-win for everyone!
I guess Democrats are worried they’re going to get FRIED in the election – their feathers plucked, eggs scrambled. That’s fine & dandy with me.
Just like chickens, Democratic plans for America just don’t fly. When they rarely do, they quickly come crashing back to earth.
Eggs Benedict, anyone?
