The political firestorm that ensued after the nation learned that the Obama Administration had swapped five of the most dangerous Taliban terrorist commanders for deserter and Muslim-convert dirtbag Bowe Bergdahl in May, might have been just the beginning as it is now being revealed that the Pentagon additionally gave a ransom for Bergdahl’s release.
According to Washington Times, the Pentagon not only swapped the Taliban commanders for Bergdahl, but they also offered the Taliban money to secure the prisoner exchange.
“The ransom payment was first disclosed by Rep. Duncan Hunter in a Nov. 5 letter to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. Mr. Hunter stated in the letter that Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) made the payment covertly as part of a release deal. But the money was stolen by the Afghan intermediary claiming to represent the Haqqani terrorist network.
Given the significance of this matter, as well as the fact that Pentagon officials have denied that a payment was even considered — and you also said you were unaware of any such attempt — I ask you to immediately inquire with JSOC to determine the specific order of events,’ said Mr. Hunter, California Republican and member of the House Armed Services Committee.”
This revelation is not likely to be taken well by the American people, as a poll in August revealed that nearly two-thirds of Americans did not believe that our government should offer ransom to terrorists in exchange for hostages. Many experts believe that this type of behavior only encourages terrorists to engage in more kidnappings, as the hostage money they could potentially receive could go to fund future terrorism, which then puts our current deployed Soldiers at a greater risk for capture.
Why did negotiating Bergdahl’s release come at such high priority to this administration, while Marine Sergeant Tahmooressi, who was wrongfully imprisoned and held hostage in a Mexican prison for 214 days, was basically left to rot with very little effort to coordinate for his release? What’s even more disconcerting is why would Obama go to such great lengths to get Bergdahl released, when he himself said that he could not guarantee that the Taliban commanders would not return to terrorism? I suppose if you are Obama, you have to take care of your own.
