Excerpted from Mashable: The Federal Bureau of Investigation asked the public for information on the identity of a suspected Islamic State militant, who speaks with what officials describe as “a North American accent,” in an appeal issued Wednesday.
The FBI said it is also seeking information “identifying individuals who have traveled — or are planning to travel — overseas to engage in combat alongside terrorist organizations.” It singles out one particular masked jihadi who appears in an ISIS propaganda video from Syria, speaking fluent English and Arabic.

The footage appears to be part of a longer 55-minute ISIS video. It shows several captive men, described as soldiers of Syrian government forces, being forced to dig their own graves. The masked man then points a gun at the back of their heads before the video cuts to black.
The jihadi claims to be at the 17th Division Military base of the Syrian army near Raqqa in Syria. The site was captured by ISIS fighters in July, and more than 50 government soldiers were reportedly captured and killed while attempting to retreat from the base.
“We are here with the soldiers of [Syrian President] Bashar [al-Assad]; you can see them now digging their own graves in the very place where they were stationed, the very place where they were stationed terrorizing the Muslims in Raqqa,” the masked man says in the video. “This is the end that they face.”
The FBI stressed the need for public information on both those who are suspected of planning to leave the United States to fight alongside extremist groups, as well as those who have returned to the U.S. “We need the public’s assistance in identifying U.S. persons going to fight overseas with terrorist groups, or who are returning home from fighting overseas,” said Michael Steinbach, assistant director of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division.
The FBI has set up a tips page for information on suspected foreign fighters and the masked jihadi.
