From Controversial Times: Country music legend Garth Brooks was honored with a milestone award at the American Country Music awards show. But the country icon wanted to recognize real heroes, American servicemen, doing what he does best – singing a song (video below).
Introduced by American Sniper Chris Kyle’s widow Taya, Brooks took to the stage with his song “All American Kid” while active duty servicemen entered the award ceremony in uniform to stand in the aisles among the celebrity audience.
“All American Kid” speaks of a hometown hero who joins the military and serves three tours of duty, bringing back a silver star and battle scars:
He stepped off the plane
In his combat boots
He saluted the red, the white and blue
And the whole town cheered
And his mama cried
Another hometown boy
Made it home alive
Got his picture in the paper and the headline read “Welcome Back All-American Kid”
Yeah, this song is for those who never did
Come back all-American kids
As the performance ended, Brooks closed his eyes and removed his cowboy hat to join the crowd in applauding America’s heroes.
