Have you heard the saying that “no news is good news”? Well here’s some news… and it’s really, really bad! Navy Admiral Kurt Tidd (top commander of U.S. Forces in Latin America) described a ‘dense web’ of Islamic self-radicalization and criminal enterprises in the region.
Via Stars & Stripes:
“You want to spread an “There’s a few very, very radical mosques; one in particular that’s associated itself, himself, the imam, with ISIS,” Kelly said, describing activity in the Caribbean.” Extremist message in the Caribbean and recruit fighters for ISIL? We have a worrisome number of networks engaged in that,” he said Wednesday in Washington, D.C., during a briefing at the Atlantic Council, a nonpartisan think tank. ISIL is another name for the Islamic State group.
His predecessor, Marine Corps Gen. John Kelly, said in January that about 150 people from the region were known to have joined the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.
“There’s a few very, very radical mosques; one in particular that’s associated itself, himself, the imam, with ISIS,” Kelly said, describing activity in the Caribbean.
Tidd said these extremists could facilitate home-based attacks using social media. In a March briefing to the Senate Armed Services Committee, He said they are challenged by the ability to “identify, monitor and fully illuminate and understand these networks and the resources necessary to significantly disrupt, degrade and ideally dismantle them.”
This disturbing recent publication from an Islamic State group called, Dabiq, instructs to use human-smuggling networks to move its members. The biggest argument FOR tightening our borders isn’t unemployed people looking for work sneaking across. It’s the unmonitored criminals and NOW terrorists leaking through.
Now that extremist have successfully enacted a few horrible events on American soil, you can bet ISIS and other extremist groups see this as an opportunistic route to enact their terror-filled campaign on the West. Obama, Clinton and the media can continue to scorn Trump’s desire to seal the border but anyone with half a brain knows it it suicide to continue to ignore this problem.
SOUTHCOM’s area of responsibility includes 31 countries over one-sixth of the Earth’s landmass. Its objectives include disrupting drug- and human-smuggling operations and responding to natural disasters in a region knotted with volcanoes and devastating earthquakes.
