Greta Van Susteren wrote this very factual letter to the 3 most powerful men in our country, and she nails many points. This has taken much to long, and this Marine should have been released months ago, in fact he should have never been jailed. Obama doesn’t give a shit about our vets
Here’s Greta’s letter from Fox news:
We are approaching the 7 month mark since Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi inadvertently made a wrong turn and ended up in Mexico. Yes, he had guns in his truck – legal in the USA, but not legal in Mexico. I have been told by a Mexican lawyer that the Mexican law requires that someone INTEND to bring guns into Mexico. In other words, if his entry into Mexico was accidental or inadvertent, he lacked the requisite intent to violate the law. Thus, he is not guilty.
Sgt. Tahmooressi accidentally ended up in Mexico. It is notable that the State of California, as a consequence of Sgt. Tahmooressi’s inadvertent turn, has now changed the signs at the point he made his turn. That sure suggests California thought the signs were confusing leading to an inadvertent or accidental turn.
Plus, I have driven the route and, had I wanted to return to San Diego (like Sgt. Tahmooressi) I would have made the same turn. I would have expected that turn to take me north to San Diego and not south to Mexico.
Since day #1, I have urged our government (that means you) to help this Marine — just help him get a speedy trial in Mexico. A speedy trial with review of the facts would be fair and just. 7 months rotting in a prison when you are injured (PTSD), and where you don’t speak the language and thus are in solitary confinement, is cruel – especially when something could be done by our government.
I have seen zero effort by any of you to help Sgt. Tahmooressi. And worse, I have seen plenty of opportunity for you to help. Your failure to seize the opportunity sends the message that you don’t give a damn. That is a really bad message. If you tried, and you failed, at least the thinking would be that you ‘have their backs’ — doing nothing suggests you don’t care.
Sgt. Tahmooressi has PTSD, and served our nation twice in Afghanistan, the second tour getting hit by an IED. I appreciate that Sgt. Tahmooressi did 2 tours in Afghanistan for us and thus I keep trying to keep the spotlight on his confinement hoping that maybe you will step up and help. You have the power.
If you are helping behind the scenes, please let me know. I don’t want to unfairly criticize you. (I also don’t want to be pushing this if it is unwise to do so….but so far, no one has said anything about it …on the record or off the record.)
If you know something about Sgt. Tahmooressi that I don’t know which is important to justifying your apparent lack of action, please let me know. I don’t want to unfairly criticize you.
Finally, if by chance Sgt. Tahmooressi does not get convicted and gets released, please, please, please make sure he gets help at the VA immediately. He has PTSD, he has shown signs of paranoia and he has / had guns. That can be a recipe for disaster and the VA is now on notice.
We owe so much to our vets and while I realize we can’t help everyone all the time, your help for Sgt. Tahmooressi would send a giant message to all the vets and their families that you really care. This is an important message.
