It looks like the Obama administration has a hard time facing reality. During the response to the brutal attack that left 12 people dead in France, the White House refused to clearly call the event “terrorism.”
Press Secretary Josh Earnest did eventually use that word, but treated it as a hypothetical instead of a fact. He appeared on CNN and seemed unwilling to take a firm stand against the terrorist incident.
“This is an act of violence that we certainly do condemn and, you know, if based on this investigation it turns out to be an act of terrorism, then we would condemn that in the strongest possible terms, too.”
Sometimes you have to wonder if Obama and his staff live in the same world as the rest of us. If it turns out to be an act of terrorism?
There is video of the masked attackers screaming “Allahu Akbar!” while murdering civilians in Paris. Islamic groups previously made clear threats against the magazine publisher and called for their murder, citing mistreatment of Muhammad as the reason.
Despite those facts, the White House was apparently still not sure whether it was terrorism.
In contrast, the President of France had no qualms about speaking the truth. President Francois Hollande called the incident “a terrorist attack without a doubt.” Maybe Josh Earnest could have called him to check.
The first step in dealing with any problem is admitting that it exists. By using vague language and trying to ignore the reality of this attack, the Obama administration has shown that they are still in denial about the threat of Islamic terrorism.
