From BizPac: Two New York women inspired by 7th century barbarians from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria are facing terrorism charges after being busted for allegedly planning to build a bomb to detonate in the United States.
Roommates Noelle Velentzas, 28, and Asia Siddiqui, 31, were interested in jihad after getting in contact with al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula and watching videos of isis beheading victims, according to The New York Times.
The women live in Queens and are both U.S. citizens.
According to a complaint unsealed last Thursday, Siddiqui “is currently in possession of multiple propane gas tanks, as well as instructions for how to transform propane tanks into explosive devices.”
NBC reported the complaint also said Velentzas allegedly called Osama bin Laden her hero and praised the World Trade Center attacks.
According to CNN, the women’s arrests are part of a number of cases involving individuals seeking to commit attacks in the U.S. on behalf of ISIS, or offer the terrorist organization other material support.
One such case involved an Army National Guard member and his cousin who were arrested in an alleged plot that included a planned attack on a U.S. military base in Illinois. Another case involved three New York men arrested for their role in an alleged failed attempt to join isis in Syria.
CNN reported that in the last 18 months, the Justice Department “has prosecuted or is prosecuting more than 30 cases of people attempting to travel abroad to join or providing support to terrorist groups.”
But the Queens jihadists dismissed the idea of traveling overseas to help out. According to the complaint, Velentzas allegedly said there were more opportunities of “pleasing Allah” in the U.S.
