WWE superstar John Cena is the host of a new TV show on Fox called “American Grit.”
“American Grit” is a show where sixteen men and women compete in survival and military type challenges to win prize money of up to one million dollars. The contestants are split into four groups, and each group has a military veteran as its mentor.
In the first episode, Chris, a personal trainer, doesn’t like the way U.S. Marine veteran Tawanda “Tee” Hanible gives his team direction during one of the challenges.
Chris then tells Hanible:
“I’m not blaming you. I’m saying I blame myself for listening to you. This is mind boggling, you would have been better off without you there.”
Here’s what Hanible’s facial expression looked like after the comment:
When Cena saw what happened, he took Chris aside and gave him a reality check about the sacrifices that veterans make.
“Your mentor is a gunnery sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. When you turned 10-years-old, she was in boot camp kicking ass – with men.
When you were getting your driver’s license, she was in Iraq in combat. And she was responsible for not only her own life, but the safety of more than one thousand marines.
You sleep under a blanket of freedom that she has provided for you. I think you owe Tee an apology.”
Despite Cena’s words, Chris remained unapologetic. And it ended up costing him in the next challenge:
