(The Blaze)New York Democratic House candidate Martha Robertson’s seemingly planned remarks about her Republican opponent’s role in the “war against women” backfired in a big way during a televised debate on Thursday.
“Tom Reed, you’re part of the war against women,” Robertson began.
The crowd immediately reacted with loud groans and chuckling.
“Please everybody, please,” the moderator interjected.
When the crowd quieted down, Robertson accused Republican Rep. Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) of supporting “wage discrimination against women” and voting against “women’s right to choose.”
She did not receive applause for her talking points. Then Reed responded.
“It’s false. This is political rhetoric at its worst,” he said, adding that he will always “stand and fight” for equal treatment of women under the law.
“I believe in the American dream. It is what I was raised on and I will continue to be committed to it. And to engage in the rhetoric of the war on women, to me, that is offensive and it’s just not accurate,” he added, sparking some applause from the audience.
