Perhaps nothing better captures the self-absorbed, entitlement mentality many Americans have than the response a fast food worker gives when asked why she deserved to be paid more than a paramedic.

Lakecha Jackson was participating in a “Fight for $15” minimum wage protest — an initiative heavily funded by the Service Employees International Union — when a Fox 2 Detroit reporter hit her with the question, reported.

“Some people say that paramedics don’t even make $15 an hour and they save lives,” the reporter began. “So, why should fast food workers get that?”

(The median annual salary for EMTs and paramedics was $31,700 in 2014, which works out to just over $15 an hour, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.)
