The President and First Lady visited Texas in an effort to assess the situation and see what needed to be done. Their visit was both much anticipated and hotly criticized. Just like any of their actions, this one was dissected by the haters who are waiting with bated breath for the POTUS and FLOTUS to fail. This is sad because doing things like visiting storm-ravaged areas is something that is great for morale.
To be clear, the first family shouldn’t be expected to pick up shovels and wade through water to assist victims. They are there to assess the situation and see what governmental aid the victims need, as Trump can deploy the military and other resources on a national level. Just having the First Couple showing up gives the people in an affected area hope that they’re being noticed, and will get what they need.
However, none of that seemed relevant to the publications and people who thought it appropriate to take the focus of the disaster and put it on the First Lady’s foot wear. These individuals were so concerned with trying to take the FLOTUS down a peg or two that they completely missed the point of the trip, which was to see the people and figure out how to help them.

“Michelle Obama is such an egomaniac that she was positive Melania Trump would be a far worse First Lady than she was. That’s why it has come as such a brutal surprise to Michelle that Melania has been earning rave reviews since she took over the position.
On Tuesday, Michelle’s minions in the mainstream media tried to humiliate Melania when they bashed her for wearing high heels as she boarded Air Force One to head to Texas to check out the devastation there caused by Hurricane Harvey.
However, Melania silenced Michelle and her other liberal minions as soon as she set foot on Texas soil.
The Gateway Pundit reported that Melania emerged from Air Force One wearing flats paired up with a crisp white dress shirt and black pants. The subdued outfit made it clear that Melania is in Texas to do as much good there as she can, not to make herself look glamorous.
However, despite the fact that Melania was dressed rather plainly, she still looked as beautiful as ever. This just goes to show that our current First Lady can pull off pretty much any look, much to Michelle’s dismay!
The first misunderstanding here is that Texans would be insulted by what the First Lady was wearing. As a Texan myself, I can promise you that high heels are never discouraged. They may not always be practical, but if you’ve got the guts to try it and the stability to pull it off, we’ll tip our hats to you for making the extra effort.
All that being said, I seriously doubt that anyone was expecting the FLOTUS to be getting her hands (or feet) involved in any dirty work because that wasn’t the purpose of the trip. What was the purpose was adding to the awareness that this region of the country needed help, and since her controversial foot wear was distracting from that, she changed. But not before commenting on the sad state of events that her shoes were even newsworthy at a time like this.
Melania Trump’s office is pushing back after the first lady ignited some controversy by emerging for her visit to hurricane-stricken Texas in a pair of stiletto heels.
‘It’s sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes,’ the First Lady’s spokesperson told Fortune.
The First Lady and her husband are in Texas for the day, touring the Emergency Operations Center in Austin and participating in a briefing on Hurricane Harvey, which officials said has killed nine people.
The First Lady did step off of Air Force one in Texas wearing running shoes. But the image of the First Lady in stiletto heels as she walked to Air Force One had already made the rounds on social media, with some opining about the optics of wearing expensive footwear to visit a state ravaged by the worst flooding in its history.
Trump issued a statement about her desire to offer assistance the victims of the hurricane Tuesday evening. ‘I want to be able to offer my help and support in the most productive way possible, not through just words, but also action,’ she said. ‘What I found to be the most profound during the visit was not only the strength and resilience of the people of Texas, but the compassion and sense of community that has taken over the State.'”
I think I speak for many Texans when I say that we greatly appreciate the attention given to our state during this devastating time. Texans can use all the support that we can get while huge portions of the state try to put their homes back together.
And last but not least; any woman is comfortable enough in sky high heels to wear them into a hurricane is bound to become a hero to Texas women everywhere.
