I have often wondered why people can stand by and allow a victim to be beat up by a powerful individual or a gang of people. The story of this good Samaritan may give you pause to be the person who stands up against aggressors and become one of the crowd who just allows it to happen.
Rob Ludwig was walking the 3700 block of Virginia Ave in St Louis with his girlfriend. It was a nice evening, around 6pm and they came upon a group of young men harassing a teenage girl on the street. Ludwig and his girlfriend decided to intervene. They started yelling at the group to stop and leave the girl alone. Suddenly, a woman in the group started yelling back and arguing with the couple. Then she struck Ludwig’s girlfriend with a tree limb in the head. That’s when the whole group joined in attacking Ludwig. Like a bunch of animals they punched him and hit him with whatever object they could find.
The group of thugs ran away before authorities arrived and so far no arrests have been made. Ludwig’s friends set up a GoFundMe page. Here’s how he is doing:
Rob was released from the hospital and was able to celebrate his birthday at home. He is taking things one day at time and we hope for a full recovery but have to wait for the swelling and bruising to go down. Rob is no stranger to fighting for his life, he fought cancer (lymphoma) and WON…he fought heart complications from the chemotherapy..and WON…he fought end stage renal disease, years of dialysis and 2 kidney transplants…and WON. Rob is a HERO to many of us that know him and a vicious attack by 15 cowards is NOT going to stop him, especially when he was trying to help out a fellow neighbor. What is our society coming to! He will recover and he will WIN again…because that’s how SUPER HEROs roll.
Hats of to you Rob, I am honored to be able to call you friend!
Don’t let the fact that Ludwig and his girlfriend were severely injured to deter YOU from doing the right thing. BE the ONE who puts down their cellphone camera and intervenes, who knows if more people put on courage and lent a helping hand, those that do good will soon outnumber those who do evil once again.
