From Mad World News: A cancer doctor in Detroit is facing prison time after pleading guilty to 16 counts that include health care fraud, conspiracy to receive kickbacks and money laundering. Dr. Farid Fata read aloud the charges he pleaded guilty to during a court hearing Tuesday. He was calm as he admitted to administering anti-cancer drugs that were medically unnecessary and filing claims to Medicare he knew to be fraudulent.
That was only a portion of the counts against him. In total there were 23 counts, but he only pleaded guilty to 13 counts of health care fraud, one count of conspiracy to receive kickbacks and two counts of money laundering. According to US Attorney Barbara McQuade:
“It is the most egregious case of health care fraud I have ever seen,” said U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade. “I think what makes this case different is this is not just a case of a doctor billing Medicare for extra treatments or treatments that weren’t rendered in order to make a profit. This was a case of a doctor exploiting patients, using them as commodities in order to make money.” ~Click On Detroit
He could face 10 years in prison for the health care fraud, 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the conspiracy to receive kickbacks, and 20 years in prison plus another $5 million fine for the money laundering charges. The government is seeking a life-in-prison sentence. Sentencing is expected to take place in February. Federal prosecutors are saying that Fata bilked as much as $91 Million by prescribing treatments that weren’t needed for the patient. He was giving chemotherapy treatments to many who did NOT have cancer.
This now begs the question in my mind about those that practice Islam becoming Doctors in our country. Taking a look back at the Ford Hood shootings and Major Nidal Hasan — who committed what the government is calling workplace violence, when in all actuality it was a form of Jihad on a Military Instillation — the fact that some Muslims are becoming doctors to practice a form of ‘Medical Jihad’ in our country in a new way to kill the ‘Infidels’ should be cause for concern. I pray that I’m wrong about this, but at the same time I can’t help but wonder if that is the true path some of them are following.
Many victims of Dr. Fata are unhappy that this matter didn’t go to trial while others are just glad to have it done with. Our prayers are with these families that underwent non-essential treatment for cancer that they didn’t have. Chemotherapy is hard on the body and can make life miserable for even the strongest person out there. Dr. Fata also faces a long list of civil lawsuits.
