Just hours ago a shooting was reported at Ohio State University. An active shooter was reported at Watts Hall at Ohio State University by university police and emergency management. The campus newspaper The Lantern posted a photo of a “body bag” outside Koffolt Labs and also reported a possible second shooter.
Turns out it wasn’t a shooting, but a terrorist stabbing rampage.
It’s a miracle that can hardly be said of most terror attacks that the only death was that of the terrorist, who was killed by police. At least seven students were injured however, but none died as a result of their injuries.
There were reports of a second potential terrorist initially, but it’s common for early reporting to be off. It’s still unclear whether or not there actually was a second terrorist, but it’s unlikely.
The strangest part of this stabbing however, is that it comes just weeks after an OSU student was arrested for trying to participate in an ISIS terror plot. As Jihad Watch reported:
U.S. authorities have arrested a 20-year-old Ohio man for allegedly conspiring to join Islamic State militants.
Aaron Travis Daniels of Columbus faces a charge of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.Daniels, also known as Harun Muhammad and Abu Yusef, was arrested as he tried to board a plane. Authorities said his ultimate destination was Libya.
According to the criminal complaint, Daniels sent $250 in January to “an ISIS operative” and had communicated his commitment to violent overseas jihad.
That was reported on November 7th, and Daniels faced up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Investigators said there was no reason to believe Daniels was trying to recruit others, but we’ll find out the truth about that.
Now here’s the connection to today’s OSU stabbing. According to NBC, “The suspect’s name was not released, but law enforcement officials told NBC News he was an 18-year-old Ohio State student, a Somali refugee who was a legal permanent resident of the United States.” Nearly all people in Somalia are Sunni Muslims. ISIS is a Sunni Islamist extremist group.
ISIS hasn’t claimed credit in any of their propaganda channels, but if they do, this marks the third attack of theirs on American soil where they haven’t managed to kill even a single person.
