I suggest that anyone landing at JFK make other arrangements than getting a cab to get to your destination. The New York Taxi Drivers Alliance is boycotting picking anyone up from the airport because of President Trump’s freeze on refugees from terrorist nations. The union is overwhelmingly Muslim these days. Turn this around on them… these cab drivers should be boycotted by patriots. We can live without them if we have to.
You know, Uber or Lyft would be a perfect response to these Muslim taxi drivers. This is all a result of two Iraqi travelers that were detained trying to enter the U.S. following President Trump’s immigration ban. These drivers’ allegiance is to Islam and not to our President and country. Therefore, I would not use their services.
From U.S. Uncut:
Professional drivers are over 20 times more likely to be murdered on the job than other workers. By sanctioning bigotry with his unconstitutional and inhumane executive order banning Muslim refugees from seven countries, the president is putting professional drivers in more danger than they have been in any time since 9/11 when hate crimes against immigrants skyrocketed.
Our 19,000-member-strong union stands firmly opposed to Donald Trump’s Muslim ban. As an organization whose membership is largely Muslim, a workforce that’s almost universally immigrant, and a working-class movement that is rooted in the defense of the oppressed, we say no to this inhumane and unconstitutional ban.
We know all too well that when government programs sanction outright Islamophobia, and the rhetoric of hate is spewed from the bully pulpit, hate crimes increase and drivers suffer gravely. Our Sikh and other non-Muslim brown and black members also suffer from anti-Muslim violence.
Today, drivers are joining the protest at JFK Airport in support of all those who are currently being detained at the airport because of Trump’s unconstitutional executive order. Drivers stand in solidarity with refugees coming to America in search of peace and safety and with those who are simply trying to return to their homes here in America after traveling abroad. We stand in solidarity with all of our peace-loving neighbors against this inhumane, cruel, and unconstitutional act of pure bigotry.
The two Iraqi refugees who were detained at JFK on Friday have now filed a writ of habeas corpus seeking to be released. One of them was released early Saturday afternoon. Which I think was a mistake. The lawyers wasted no time in contacting the families of these refugees and the left has staged protests at these airports. It’s a disgrace. The detainment followed an executive order from Trump banning entry to individuals from seven predominantly Muslim nations for 120 days. I look for that period to be extended.
Trump on Friday signed an executive order that he said would provide a thorough vetting of refugees to ensure that “radical Islamic terrorists” cannot get into the U.S. Trump’s order indefinitely blocks refugees from war-torn Syria and suspends all refugee admissions for 120 days while the administration determines which countries pose the least risk. It also limits the number of refugees per year to 50,000. Obama has already brought in more than 32,000 this year so far, so there’s not a lot of room left for this year’s quota. I know! We could send all these Muslim taxi drivers to the Islamic nation of their choice. It would be a win-win.
