Democratic public officials had their emails and phone numbers distributed virally on the Internet in a hack by what many believe to be Russians. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was none to pleased with the consequences of this hack. After receiving numerous obscene voicemails and messages she called the hack an electronic Watergate.
She called for those affected not to allow family members to answer or read messages or calls. The hack specifically targeted the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as well as other miscellaneous Democratic Party entities. Personal and professional information of Democratic officials and innumerable congressional staff were released.
Pelosi indicated her number would be changed and called for others to do the same. Hacker Guccifer 2.0 took credit. They posted the information Friday night also claiming responsibility for the hack of Democratic National Committee emails. Guccifer 2.0 has identified himself as a Romanian hacker. He or she denies working for Russia.
President Obama has insinuated and flat out said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has the means, the motive and the opportunity to facilitate such hacking attacks. He said anything is possible. Media pundits have said it would be Russia’s way of influencing the election.
The FBI investigation currently underway hasn’t placed blame on Russia yet. But Clinton’s campaign has saying the hacker is Russian and in cahoots with Donald Trump. Trump has denied this.
Two U.S. cyber-security firms are involved with the hacking investigation. They have said that their analysis of the computer breaches at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee initially showed numerous evidence that the hacks were in all likelihood linked to Russia.
The internet domains and registrants were tied to a Russian hacking group. It was linked to the Russian nation’s intelligence services. The hacking group is known as “Fancy Bear.” This is the same business that was connected to the cyber breach at the Democratic National Committee last month.
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange said their is no proof Russia is behind this latest leak.
Pelosi had not so nice comments to make about the release of democratic officials personal information,
“Upon landing, I have received scores of mostly obscene and sick calls, voicemails and text messages.”
Those affected were encouraged to change their emails and phone numbers. Hat includes non governmental emails. They are also encouraged to contact Capitol police over any threats and suspicious behavior.
While hacking should never be encouraged and this is clearly an illegal act, one cannot help but think this is karma for those progressive liberals.
