Wow… there is some serious hate-age out there in the football industry for Colin Kaepernick. He’s evidently getting some support from his fellow teammates, but the league’s executives want the guy gone… yesterday.
Most of the execs coming out against Kaepernick evidently don’t want to do so publicly, but the animosity is there alright. Heavy and heart felt… I would wager Kaepernick’s days are numbered. But those gunning for him will not commit career suicide by speaking publicly. This will be a blow from above unseen.
The divide within the NFL has already been established when it comes to Colin Kaepernick and his decision to sit during the national anthem. The 49ers quarterback is garnering more support from his fellow players than he is from the league’s executives, some of whom anonymously tore him apart when they spoke to Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman.
Freeman talked to seven executives of unclear seniority, one of whom believed Kaepernick was as loathed among the league as Rae Carruth, the former Carolina Panthers player who conspired to murder his pregnant girlfriend. The ones quoted shared the same line of thought:
“I don’t want him anywhere near my team,” one front office executive said. “He’s a traitor.”
“He has no respect for our country,” one team executive said. “F—k that guy.”
Another said that if an owner asked him to sign Kaepernick, he would consider resigning, rather than do it.
“In my career, I have never seen a guy so hated by front office guys as Kaepernick,” one general manager said.
I know that a number of team managers, including the one that manages the 49ers, are big supporters of the military and police officers. Kaepernick’s ongoing actions cannot possibly sit well with these guys. Colin is now the most hated guy in football and he is seemingly proud of it.
Seven unidentified team executives don’t want Kaepernick anywhere near their team. It’s estimated that “90 to 95 percent of NFL front offices” don’t want anything to do with the quarterback. And I’ll bet it is far more than even that.
Bleacher Report’s lead NFL writer Mike Freeman wrote, “Each executive said he believes Kaepernick will likely get released by the 49ers — and never play in the NFL again.” Freeman also wrote that he heard Kaepernick would “dedicate his life to one of social activism” if his stance results in the end of his NFL career. Which undoubtedly it will. He feels Kaepernick could be treated like Chris Kluwe, a former Vikings kicker who believes the NFL blackballed him for expressing his views on gay rights.
Since Black Lives Matter is about as popular as the plague, I wish him luck with that.
