The football season isn’t even in full swing yet, but the protest are. After Colin Kaepernick didn’t get hired onto a team to continue his anti-American antics, several other players picked up where he left off.
This reached a fever pitch at the Monday night game this week between the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. For the first time in history, a total of 11 athletes from one team dropped to their knee when the National Anthem started, refusing to stand and honor our flag.
These silly sideline protests are nothing compared to what’s going down at the NFL headquarters in New York, but the reason for it is not what you think.
The problem with these protests as started by Kaepernick last season is that they don’t and won’t accomplish what these athletes think they will. Showing defiance for our flag and in a free nation that allows them to act like idiots, only deepens the divide and invites more problems. We’re seeing proof of this now.
Players protesting is now only half the problem as counter protesters are now showing defiance and outrage for a different reason.
While football fans are fed-up with entitled athletes acting like they are oppressed and abusing their public platforms, they simply respond in a truly peaceful way to this by boycotting the games. On the flip side, liberals have a much different reaction to what else is going on in the league and for a much different reason.
Where there is outrage, there are liberals making it worse. Groups like the NAACP should be happy with the stance that these black players are taking, but instead, are upset that Colin Kaepernick isn’t playing. This new wave of public outrage has now started a third leg of this issue with what New Yorkers have planned for the NFL headquarters this Wednesday.
While patriots are boycotting the games in droves for the NFL not doing anything about their players, the NAACP is doing the same since not a single team in the league will sign the godfather of this cause. Now, New Yorkers will rally in support of the free agent quarterback Kaepernick, who they say has been “white-balled” by the National Football League for taking a stand for social and racial justice in America.
This rally, of course, fails to recognize that Kaepernick’s athletic performance went downhill fast last season. However, those are just semantics that apparently get in the way of a social justice point to be made, and spearheaded by famed Women’s March chieftain Tamika Mallory.
“United We Stand: Rally for Kaepernick” is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. EDT on August 23 in front of the NFL headquarters at 345 Park Avenue in New York City.
“Colin Kaepernick used his Constitutional right to free speech and took a knee on behalf of black lives,” Mallory said in an email statement to NewsOne. “Within his field – where players have been excused for egregious behaviors like violence against women—it is clear team owners are making a statement, and we as consumers, viewers and people of good moral conscience must make a statement as well.”
People still clamor on about how Kaepernick doesn’t have a job as a quarterback on any NFL team and those people cite it’s due to racism, but they forget to look at Kaepernick’s abysmal play and statistics over the last two years.
He’s a third stringer who wants elite starting quarterback money, but that’s just not going to happen because it’s a poor business decision for every owner in the league. This has nothing to do with his sideline stance at every game last season, and everything to do with his performance.
In a liberals’ mind, everyone deserves a trophy, or in this case an NFL career, and when they don’t earn it – just like all other players are expected to – it must be racism, right?
Even if he couldn’t get hired because he was a complete cancer to the team last season with his selfish behavior, that would still have nothing to do with racism – it’s about respect for his teammates, coach, franchise, fans and most of all, the country who has afforded him the ability to make millions playing a game.
One man’s protest has become a problem for the entire league and now he and his minion mouthpieces want to complain that he can’t get a job.
Let these people protest on his behalf because there are far more genuine fans of the sport who will be boycotting too for the right reasons. Maybe the combined effort will be the total package to end this problem once and for all since thousands, on both sides of the issue, won’t be watching the NFL or supporting their advertisers.
Fans are tired of entitled athletes bringing their politics into sports. People want rivalries, action, and great games. The politics in sports ruins the game. The political correctness ruins it too.
