Obama just won’t let the issue of gun control go.
At every opportunity, President Barack Obama has used mass shootings as an opportunity to repeal the Second Amendment. He tries again and again to push gun control measures… which end up getting shot down unanimously every time.
His gun control measures aren’t getting shot down because the gun lobby is just too powerful, it’s because congressmen are elected to represent the interests of those who voted for him, and in America, most oppose gun control.
At least Obama had a bit more grace than Congressional Democrats, who threw a temper tantrum and had a “sit in.” He did circumvent the system of checks and balances we have in America however, passing 23 executive orders on gun control.
The fact that he’s still pushing for gun control should prove to everyone that the 23 gun control measures he passed haven’t worked.
Now, with only months left in his Presidency, another regulation is in store.
The State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) is now demanding that gunsmiths register and play by the same rules as gun manufacturers, which means paying a $2,250 fee for any work involving “cutting, drilling, or machining for installation.”
Of course, if your work does not involve any of the above actions, or “repairs involving replacement parts that do not improve the accuracy, caliber, or other aspects of firearm operation,” you don’t need to register your business. But that is a very small number of gunsmiths, as alterations to weapon parts can often necessitate altering the composition of the original firearm.
The insanely high fee will do one of two things:
It will drive small businesses in the ground, destroying the hopes and dreams of countless people who want to provide a simple service to the public.
Prices for something like a routine trigger installation will skyrocket to allow the business to pay the fee, which will prevent people on a budget (almost everyone) from being able to get their firearm worked on.
Democrats realize that they’ll never be able to ban guns outright, so they’re adopting a new strategy to keep guns out of the hands of the American public: death by a thousand cuts.
