It is standard tradition for an outgoing President to get one last ride on an Air Force One plane. Every President has. The former President Bush took his family back to their home in Texas. Now the Obama’s used their last flight to head to Palm Springs for vacation. However, the weather shifted on their route when they got storm clouds and really heavy rain.
Air Force One, now called SAM (Special Air Mission) 28000 since Obama is not president any longer, was forced to divert their flight to the March Air Reserve Base in Riverside. Which was disappointing to those in Palm Springs as they waited all day in the rainy Palm Springs weather to catch a glimpse of the First Family.
They are still expected to take their vacation after the short travel delay. When the weather clears it is likely the President will enjoy a good golf game as he always has. Once the weather clears of course. About their Post-presidency plans Michelle Obama said,
“We’re going to take a little break. We’re finally going to get some sleep and take some time to be with our family and just be still for a little bit.”
When the inaugural swearing-in ceremony finished the First Family escorted the outgoing First Family to Marine One so that they could be on their way out of the city now that their time in Washington D.C. is finished. They made a pit stop to Andrews Air Force Base to say thank you to military veterans and say goodbye.
The former President said the following,
“This is not a period. This is a comma, in the continuing story of building America.”
The Obama family will reside in Washington, D.C. until their youngest daughter Sasha finishes high school. They are renting a home in the wealthy Kalorama neighborhood of Washington D.C just slightly north of United States Capitol and White House.
