President Elect Trump did not make many friends while he was running for President. Many of those detractors were people he was running against. People such as Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie and more to name a few. Ben Carson hopped on the Trump train a while back. Even Mitt Romney, his greatest detractor, is being considered for Secretary of State. Now it looks like Jeb Bush is looking to hop on the train of power yet again.
Jeb Bush has thrown his support behind the President Elect about the issue of having term limits for members of Congress. Bush said,
“Americans, by wide majorities, agree that Washington is broken, so let’s send power back to the people and back to the states.”
Bush continued saying,
“I want him to know that I hope for his success. I hope that he broadens the GOP, works across the aisle and governs with pragmatism and compassion. There are many who did not vote for him who agree that what matters most now is that this nation unites and moves forward together. I will work to support those goals.”
As well, the former Governor said,
“I will continue to pray for President-Elect Trump and his family. I pray he governs inclusively, with humility and with purpose. I pray that he will be led by a deep love of this nation and each of its citizens, regardless of background or ZIP Code.”
All of the Republican candidates were asked during one of the primary presidential debates if they would endorse and support the eventual nominee. All of them raised their hands in validation that yes they would with the exception of Donald Trump. But Bush famously did an interview where he said he would not support or vote for Donald Trump.
Yet he did send a congratulatory tweet after his unprecedented win against Hillary Clinton in the general election. If Trump’s policy, backed by Bush, were to actually work and be made into law that would mean that 26 senators and 226 representatives would be out of the job.
A scary thought considering the fact that it means most of the representatives for us in our government are all career politicians. It would certainly ring true to Trump’s promise to drain the swamp.
Some are very happy that establishment candidates are getting behind Trump. Nikki Haley was appointed UN ambassador by Trump and Mitt Romney is being considered for Secretary of State. Now Jeb Bush is supporting him on term limits. It looks like there might be unity in the Republican party after all.
