OUTRAGE!!! Firefighter Facing Termination After This Photo Goes VIRAL

Beautiful picture. The firefighter definitely shouldn’t be fired. Opinions are mixed whether it this was appropriate, though. What do you think?

A New Mexico firefighter is facing termination after a photo of his wife breastfeeding their child in his uniform was posted on the Internet.

Tara Ruby, a professional photographer from El Paso, Texas, created a series of stunning photographs of first responder moms nursing their children while dressed in their work uniforms. One of the photos of a woman dressed in her husband’s firefighter uniform has gone viral, although perhaps for the wrong reason.

After Ruby posted the picture to her Facebook page, the Las Cruces Fire Department caught wind of the image and opened up an investigation which may result in an unpaid leave for the firefighter and possibly even termination of employment.

Ruby has photographed a variety of working mothers breastfeeding their babies, including police officers, doctors, and teachers. Last year, her photo of Fort Bliss soldiers nursing in uniform went viral and reached international media.

Speaking about the firefighter photo Ruby said, “The intention has been since the very beginning to show that a mom can be a full-time mom and still work a full-time job and do both equally at the same time. I was mad for the mom and the husband she has that’s supporting her in this. It was never intended to be anything negative. It’s only you know supposed to be positive.”

She says the photo has received a mostly positive response, with many moms encouraging her to grow the collection to include more nursing mothers in other professions.

“To think that support was instantly negative and to date, nobody has reached out to talk to me. If someone has an issue with a photo that I took or the meaning behind that photo, they should reach out and ask me. I don’t understand why this is happening,” Ruby said.

Some people have speculated in the comments that perhaps the firefighter is facing disciplinary action for allowing another person to wear his uniform without permission.

Others have also stated that it’s dangerous for the infant to come in contact with the firefighter’s PPE uniform, since they can be contaminated with all sorts of on-the-job toxins.

KFOX14 contacted the LCFD to find out what prompted the investigation. A department spokesperson said it’s a personnel matter and no details can be given at this time.
