We’re all aware over the controversy surrounding Colin Kaepernick, and to be quite honest, I can’t believe people are still talking about it. The satirical newspaper The Onion ran an op-ed last week headlined “I Just Wish NFL Players Could Find A Way To Protest Without Starting a National Dialogue.” To be honest – I can’t help but agree!
For anyone who managed to fall out of the loop, earlier this month, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided he wouldn’t stand for the national anthem before every game – a move that got him booed in even liberal San Francisco (which hasn’t voted Republican in forever). His justification for the “protest” was that he didn’t want to honor a nation “the oppresses black people.” You know – the kind of nation that pays a black man adopted and raised by white parents $19 million a year to throw a football around.
As you can guess, Kaepernick is sympathetic to the Black Lives Matter movement, and has pledged to donate $1 million to groups like them.
He’s inspired some of his fellow players to join in the protest, and even players in other professional sports leagues. But while he’s attracted some to his cause, there are many more protesting his protest. As Steven Crowder reported:
ebron James recently came under leftist hell fire because of an interview he did. In said interview, he was asked for his opinion on the latest athlete protests (see Kate Upton Blasts Miami Dolphins’ National Anthem Protest: ‘A Disgrace!’). His response? Super rational. That didn’t sit well with leftists. Naturally…
He stated: “Me, standing for the national anthem is something I will do. That’s who I am. That’s what I believe in. But that doesn’t mean I don’t respect and don’t agree with what Colin Kaepernick is doing.”
That’s probably the most balanced stance on this whole debacle I’ve seen thus far. He concluded with three words that are going to drive liberals nuts, adding “I’m not up here saying that all the police are bad, because they’re not.I’m not up here saying all kids are great and all adults are great, because they’re not. But at the same time, all lives do matter. It’s not just about black or white, it’s everyone.”
Well, it’s nice to see that are still some reasonable people out there.
