From Mad World News: The American flag is perhaps the most well-known symbol of American pride, and when we as Americans hang it, we do so with a sense of patriotism. So when someone tells us to take it down – for whatever asinine reason – it’s not only viewed as offensive, as some college students recently did, but it’s un-American.
As ABC 10 reports, Brad Smith moved to a new apartment complex in San Diego, California, where he brought with him Old Glory. Shortly after hanging his flag, however, he was notified by the complex that he must immediately take it down or else face eviction.
Upon further inspection into the community’s rules and regulations, “no signs or other personal property may be kept outside the premises” and management is directly responsible for deeming what is “permissible and acceptable” and what is not. However, Smith notes, “This was never brought to my attention, saying this is the reason right here.”
After contacting an attorney specializing in such matters, attorney Christian Curry said to ABC 10, “Clearly, they want to keep it clean and that’s something they want to accomplish. It’s a compelling reason, but it’s hardly a reason that’s going to overcome your free speech.”
Score another one for the Constitution.
According to management, anyone hanging a flag or banner will be notified that they must remove it from the premises immediately. When speaking with a representative of the complex though, they shared something that couldn’t have been any different. Read more from Mad World News
