Another liberal actor, another dumb public political comment made.
The latest controversy follows a BET awards speech that Jesse Williams gave. In an otherwise fine speech, he went off on a tangent against police, stating:
Now, what we’ve been doing is looking at the data and we know that police somehow manage to deescalate, disarm and not kill white people everyday. So what’s going to happen is we are going to have equal rights and justice in our own country or we will restructure their function and ours.
Now… I got more y’all – yesterday would have been young Tamir Rice’s 14th birthday so I don’t want to hear anymore about how far we’ve come when paid public servants can pull a drive-by on 12 year old playing alone in the park in broad daylight, killing him on television and then going home to make a sandwich. Tell Rekia Boyd how it’s so much better than it is to live in 2012 than it is to live in 1612 or 1712. Tell that to Eric Garner. Tell that to Sandra Bland. Tell that to Dorian Hunt.
His statement, of course, is completely false. From 2013-2015, half of those killed by police were white, while 30% were black. Now it’s true that blacks were killed in greater proportion to their makeup of the United States (about 12% of the U.S. pop.), however, if you adjust for the different violent crime rate among whites and blacks, whites are 1.7 times more likely to be killed by police..
Now he’s facing backlash. According to Breitbart, there’s now a petition calling for him to be fired.
“Sign the petition to fire Jesse Williams from Grey’s Anatomy for racist rant,” reads the headline for the petition, posted at change.org by Erin Smith.
The petition quickly gathered 5,400 signatures after it was posted over the weekend, exceeding its 5,000-signature goal.
“Jesse Williams spewed a racist hate speech against law enforcement and white people at the BET awards,” the petition reads. “If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams’ actions.”
Williams took to Twitter to denounce the petition. A few patriots immediately rebutted him.
But….wait…aren't YOU an empty person that just threw a tantrum to promote yourself and get attention?! @iJesseWilliams

What do you think should happen? I’m all in favor of his free speech, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be without consequence.
