From Mad World: Recently, police officers have received backlash thanks in large part to the Black Lives Matter movement. Officers have been turned away from restaurants and have also found notes on their food that at the very least were rude and combative. When one officer in Knoxville, Tennessee received a note on his food when he visited a local Chick-fil-A, the sentiments left him speechless, as they were not what he expected.
An unidentified police officer pulled up to the Chick-fil-A drive-thru in late September and ordered his food. When he pulled forward to pick up his order, the employee handed him his bag, which included a handwritten note. He’d quickly realize the message wasn’t the hate-filled vitriol that officers have some to expect in the current climate in our country, as the employee also explained the officer’s food was paid for in advanced by a woman who was in front of him in the drive-thru.
The woman also left the touching handwritten note for the officer, which read, “Thank you for your service in keeping me and my family safe! It doesn’t go unnoticed.” The note was signed, “A thankful citizen.” The Knoxville Police Department posted the touching note on their Facebook page, thanking the woman for her kindness.
The post reads:
Officer Expresses Thanks
Earlier this week as a KPD officer pulled up to the drive-thru window of the Chic-Fil-A on Kingston Pike near Newcom Avenue, the team member said, “Good morning officer, your meal was paid for by the lady in front of you and she left a note on your bag.” The officer was extremely humbled and grateful for the caring thoughts that the community has shown to officers throughout the area. Thank you!
Every day our local police officers leave the safety of their homes to protect the citizens of America. They volunteer to do this job, knowing the risks they take daily, and they do it without asking for any thanks in return.
Like this woman, we should all be showing police officers in our communities gratitude instead of unwarranted disrespect. These men and women need the American people to back them up during this time more than ever and not allow those who minimize their sacrifice to prevail. Thank you to all who serve and protect. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed.
