Since October 2013, well over 50,000 “unaccompanied children” from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras have crossed America’s porous southern border.
The Obama administration has chosen to set aside normal immigration practices and allow de facto temporary amnesty for this wave of young illegal immigrants. Additionally, federal policy has purposefully aimed at dispersing the kids all around the country.
One dumping ground for a group of some 40 young illegal immigrants is Sycamore Canyon Academy, an unfenced compound for troubled boys near the tiny, poor mining town of Oracle, Ariz.
Since the Obama administration placed the group of illegal minors at the school, emergency calls from the facility to the local sheriff have nearly doubled, the Arizona Daily Independent reports.
“Law enforcement was never provided with the profiles or criminal histories of the unaccompanied juveniles coming from Central America and being placed into our communities,” Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said in a Nov. 11 press release. “Now, we are seeing an increase in violent crimes occurring at Sycamore Canyon Academy, where they were sent. Understandably, the residents of Oracle have been emailing and calling my office due to their concern of hearing of this increase in violence at the academy, and they have every right to be upset. My office is acutely aware of the situation, and we will continue to work to ensure the safety of those in Oracle and the surrounding areas.”
Last year, before the arrival of the immigrant youths, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received eight calls from Sycamore during the period from Aug. 1, 2013 to Oct. 8, 2013. Two were for runaways. Four were 911 hang-ups.
During the same period in 2014, after the immigrant influx, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received 13 calls from Sycamore Canyon Academy. Five of the 2014 calls involved assaults on other students or staffers. One call concerned narcotics. Another was for criminal damage. Still another incident involved a juvenile in an undescribed crisis.
The most recent call from the academy to the local sheriff occurred very late on the evening of Oct. 8, 2014 after a juvenile inmate attacked a staffer with a weapon.
The assaulted staffer was a 74-year-old man.
The assailant was Cristian Dakin, a 13-year-old citizen of Colombia. At around 11:15 p.m., witnesses say, Dakin struck the 74-year-old man’s head with a tube sock filled with three bars of soap.
The immigrant boy then took full advantage Arizona’s legal system by refusing to answer any questions about the assault without an attorney present.
In a separate, earlier incident, three boys allegedly attacked a female teacher and tried to take her car keys. The teacher later left her job at the reform school, according to WND.
In August 2014, the Daily Independent reported gossip from a local man who said he had talked to two runaways. The man said the runaways told him the situation at Sycamore Canyon Academy was spinning increasingly out of control since the arrival of the illegal immigrant children.
Prior to the federal government’s placement of the illegal immigrant children at the academy, about 200 locals had gathered to protest the plan. Many suggested that the government should help American kids instead of foreign kids.
“Our people are struggling here,” Oracle miner Fernie Rosales told the Independent. “We aren’t taking care of our own kids. Pack them up and drop them off on the lawn of the White House.”
