Liberals have long struggled with labeling radical acts of Islamic terror for what they, just that. You will never hear the words radical Islamic terror come from a progressive’s lips, least of all President Obama. After the terror attack in Nice, France Obama once again failed to call the tragedy violent Islamic terrorism.
In an ABC interview he said,
“By working with partners around the world, including Muslim communities, to push back against hateful ideologies that twist and distort Islam, a religion that teaches peace and justice and compassion. We will defeat these ideologies by offering a better vision of development and economic progress.
So people, especially young people, have more hope and opportunity, and are less susceptible to extremism and violence in the first place. And we will continue to promote political opportunity and democracy, so citizens have a say in their future. And we will win this fight by staying true to our values.
Values of pluralism, and rule of law, and diversity, and freedoms — like the freedom of religion, Freedom of speech and assembly, he very freedoms that the people of Nice were celebrating last night on Bastille Day.”
The narrative that radical terrorism is a byproduct of simple poverty is not only factually incorrect it perpetuates an ignorant viewpoint. After the terror attack in Dhaka, Bangladesh earlier this month media outlets found out the perpetrators were wealthy children of the countries elite who had every advantage in life.
Obama is praised as a highly skilled orator. To argue that the words don’t matter and he means nothing by it is insulting to the intelligence of all Americans. As if we’re supposed to somehow believe a man of his caliber and academic intelligence doesn’t know exactly what’s he doing. He does. He’s deliberately refraining from calling radical Islamic terrorism just that.
