As the Muslim community begins Ramadan the President has made a statement in support of them. It is in recognition of the Muslim’s holy month. He also took the opportunity to take a jab at Donald Trump.
Muslim’s are expected to fast for the entire month during the daylight hours. They are not allowed to even drink water. The ideology behind the fasting is that through it they become closer to Allah. They spend their days studying the Quran and praying, which also serves to bring hem closer to Allah. Sex, smoking, and other “bad habits” are to be avoided at all costs during the month.
“I stand firmly with Muslim American communities in rejection of the voices that seek to divide us or limit our religious freedoms or civil rights. … We will continue to welcome immigrants and refugees into our nation, including those who are Muslim.”
Many people are none too pleased with the President. Some argue by acknowledging Ramadan and pledging support to the community that by extension he is pledging support to the radical Islamic sects that perpetrate terrorist activities. Obviously that leaves many upset.
Pamela Geller of the Conservative Post was none too pleased with the President’s actions either. In an article she wrote,
“So I cannot help but be bemused and amused by Obama’s latest. “I stand firmly with Muslim American communities in rejection of the voices that seek to divide us.” Which voices? Those of the Islamic jihad terrorists who sought to divide us in San Bernardino and Garland and Chattanooga and Fort Hood and Boston? No — remember, Obama say, “They have nothing to do with Islam!” This man is in charge of our security?
The President will also be inviting some Muslim Americans to the White House for Eid celebrations. Eid begins around the first week of July and is a celebration of the end of Ramadan.
